With all of the makeup tutorials and the rise of MUAs in the Instagram, We guess it’s safe to say that donning a makeup is simply a necessity, right after your skincare routine. Be it natural look or a complete contour of the face, applying makeup is a second nature to us. But guess what, keep in mind some things that you should never do during your makeup session, for your face’s sake.
Not prepping your skin before your makeup routine
Not taking care of your skin is still a big no-no; makeup or no makeup on. Taking care of the skin and prepping them with the right steps and products, right before applying your primer is essential to ensure your makeup stays put and last longer. Plus it also means the products won’t seeped into the skin throughout the day. I’m talking the real skin care products; any makeup items that have skin-benefits doesn’t really count: they’re just additions to your skin.
Having intensive treatments right before your makeup routine
That said, the same thing is not applicable for abrasive skin care products such as scrub (gentle one is fine), facial session, and other similar treatments, even picking at your pimples. At that time, your skin is quite raw that any rich moisturizer or soothing primer is going to be enough. Your skin will hurt by the end of the day, particularly for full-face, heavy makeup routine. For best results, schedule facials (or other intensive treatments) on the day when you don’t have to wear makeup at all.
Not washing your hands before applying makeup
We are all guilty of it, but this can seriously create chaos for your skin and it’s not worth the risk: wash your hands (and arms if you want to swatch the colours first) thoroughly before applying makeup. And of course, the hygiene rule also applies to the brushes: clean them with mild soap once a week (or more if you’re a makeup addict) to keep the germs at bay.
Guilty in using and applying foundation
Your face takes the centre stage of your makeup while your eyes, lips, and cheeks will accentuate your feature with the right makeup finish and colour. Which means making sure you’re using the right foundation and primer is important for you to look good for longer. Ensure the formula is suitable for both products and to your skin, as well as choosing the correct shade (the perfect match is in the jawline, not the back of your arms).
Using unnatural, harsh light to apply makeup
Use natural light when applying your makeup (and get the lights to mimic similar brightness for night time makeup) to ensure the colours you’re using and makeup applied as it should. Nobody wants to see your face look three shades lighter with splotches of concealer when it’s invisible under harsh light.
These five tips right here is the most basic yet can be a huge game changer for your makeup routine. Try it out and see it for yourself. You’d be surprised your makeup looks like what you see in the tutorials and it’s not that difficult at all.
