Diets have become pretty much a big part of our culture. Magazines, health journals, etc. periodically feature something or other labeled as the ‘latest diet trend‘, for people to try out. But according to a recent study, the type of diet plan we choose has less to do with the desired result than the act of sticking to our chosen diet.
Though we all start zealously committed to getting fit but eventually fail because maintaining a healthy diet often proves to be difficult, for some reason or other. So, here I’m sharing some of the tips, proven by many and tried by myself, to help you keep your diet in check.
A growing number of people swear by it: journaling helps you to be more committed to your goals (bullet journal anyone?) and what more can you be more committed to it if not with your diet plan for a healthy, ideal weight?
Simply an act of writing down everything that you eat increases the chance of you to stick to your daily eating plan and psychologically, keeps your mind to always remember that you are currently dieting. As the saying goes: if you eat it, write it.
As with following a diet, sometimes it can be hard as certain diets require you to do this and that and at some point, it can be impractical to do so on a daily basis. After all, we are not a celebrity to employ a personal trainer-cum-chef, hence the next best thing we can do is: You can opt few healthy features of a diet that you can do on a daily basis until you reach your target weight (it’s better than none at all), find a diet plan that truly works for your goals, circumstances, and budget (find a certified dietician for a one time consultation if you have to), or get yourself a diet buddy that have similar goals and body type as you.
Another way to keep you stay motivated during your diet plan is to track your successes on a daily basis. And usually it can be the form of current weight, the number of bottles of water drank that day, the number of hours of quality sleep, body measurements, or how many cups of veggies you consumed that day. Trust me, seeing the graphs and numbers progress for the better is truly satisfying.
As with successes to happen, set yourself a small but realistic goal that you can keep track every day. This will keep your mind to stay motivated continually and before you know it, you will look radiant and leaner than before!
And of course, I’m being realistic right here as most of us tend to have a relapse moment. A backup plan and damage control should be created should you accidentally binge on too many sugary drinks from too much partying. For example, if you slept in less than usual (lack of sleep causes us to overeat), promise yourself to lug around a pack of wholemeal bread and a large bottle of water to keep the calories in control.
These are some of the tips that I personally follow and recommend to my family & friends and hope that you will also find them useful in sticking to your diet plan.
